Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke “Paying it Forward” Throughout the Sussex County Community

Published on - June 16, 2016

SEAFORD, DE – Giving to a charity feels good, there’s no denying that. The Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke team knows first-hand. The staff spends countless hours “paying it forward” by investing time and efforts in initiatives to strengthen the local community. The Seaford team has been busy planning fundraisers for the Sussex County Relay For Life Chapter to benefit the American Cancer Society, providing free health screenings to members of the local community and initiating a coat drive to benefit Code Purple Sussex County, a homeless coalition.

Snapshot of Giving

  • RELAY FOR LIFE: PHC at Nanticoke raised $1561.50 through multiple fundraisers
  • Code Purple Donations: 8 boxes of supplies and food and 3 boxes of coats
  • Health Screenings: 18 screenings held over the past 6 months
  • Flower delivery to PHC patients

“As healthcare providers we care about the health of the patients we care for every day through the skilled services we provide in the home setting,” said Robyn Coughenour, Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke. “When we step outside the home there’s no button that turns that caring off. We make every effort to support community members, their families, friends and the well-being of our entire community. We are invested in the quality of life in our neighborhoods, businesses and local organizations.”

“As the healthcare setting in our nation continues to evolve, we as a provider continue to pursue partnerships with groups who will deliver healthcare after hospitalization,” said Penny Short, chief nursing operator and COO, Nanticoke Health Services. “Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke is one of our partners that goes “Above and Beyond.” We know we can rely on their staff to provide the highest in quality care in coordination with our team in order to deliver what is in the best interest for each patient. In addition, we value the commitment PHC at Nanticoke has to local community organizations and initiatives.”

Building Better Relationships on the Inside

Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke also believes volunteering as an organization builds a strong culture within the company. Healthy working relationships lead to positive productivity and better outcomes for everyone.

“Our staff work in the field all day long,” added Coughenour. “We get wrapped up in travel time, technology and tracking patient’s plan of care. Working on projects like Relay For Life gives our employees an opportunity to connect with each other on a different level.”

“The time I spend with my co-workers on giving back to the community, provides a far greater sense of fulfillment than any paycheck I get at the end of the week,” said Beverly White MSM Account Manager Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke.
