Peninsula Home Care Welcomes Five New Nurses to the Maryland Team
Published on - December 8, 2015SALISBURY, MD – Peninsula Home Care, an award winning home care agency on the Lower Shore of Delmarva, welcomed five new registered nurses to the Maryland teams in Ocean Pines and Salisbury.
“Our staff is growing to meet the needs of our patients,” said Nancy Bagwell, Peninsula Home Care branch director. “Healthcare on the Shore and across the nation is evolving to focus more on education and prevention than treatment. This requires Peninsula Home Care to be more proactive than reactive and help empower patients to be a part of their healthcare plan. The end result is a happier, healthier community.”
New to the team include the following:
Rick Williams, Salisbury
Rick is a registered nurse and case manager for Peninsula Home Care. Before joining the Maryland team, he worked for five years at HealthSouth Chesapeake Rehabilitation Hospital as a charge nurse, floor nurse and IT coach during the Electronic Medical Record transition period. Rick earned his Associates Degree in Nursing from Wor-Wic Community College,
Rick is also a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse under the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses Board. He enjoys being able to help one patient at a time in his role with Peninsula Home Care.
Kim Disharoon, Salisbury
Kim is a registered nurse and case manager for Peninsula Home Care. She brings 13 years of experience to the job. Kim spent four years in Medical Surgical Nursing, four years in long term care and one year in infectious disease management. She is also Hemodialysis trained and part of the Maryland Medical Reserve Corp. Her favorite part of working in home care is patient education and helping the people she cares for understand what they can do on their own to recover and lead a healthier life.
Suzann Spurgin, Ocean Pines
With a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree, Suzann has been a registered nurse for thirty-one years. She was hired as a Clinical Manager of Care Coordination for the Peninsula Home Care Ocean Pines office. Suzann is CCRN certified from AACN Certification Corporation which includes credentials in adult, pediatric and neonatal nursing. This certification validates her knowledge of nursing care of acutely and critically ill patients.
Past work experience includes Director of Community Education and Training Center Manager for the American Heart Association and time spent with Atlantic General Hospital Surgical Services. Suzann also worked in Interventional Radiology, Gastroenterology, ICU and Homecare for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and in the ICU at Loma Linda University Medical Center in California.
Leanne Curley, Ocean Pines
Leanne brings 21 years of nursing experience to Peninsula Home Care. With an Associates in Arts and Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree, Leanne has spent most of her career in the healthcare industry. She worked as a PRN (pro re nata or per diem, as needed) in Atlantic General Hospital’s Emergency Room, a registered nurse in the Emergency Room at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, was a Community Liaison Nurse for University of Maryland Medical Center and a Utilization Review Nurse for Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Leanne enjoys having the ability to help patients be as independent as possible and stay in their homes. She lives in Ocean Pines, Maryland and spend her free time volunteering at Berlin Intermediate School.
Emily Palmisano, Ocean Pines
Emily, a registered nurse for Peninsula Home Care (PHC), has 20 years of experience in the nursing field. She earned her degree at Wor-Wic Community College and worked as a hospital nurse and office nurse prior to joining the PHC team. Emily enjoys educating patients to help prevent readmissions to the hospital and keeping them healthy at home.
