Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke Partners with Code Purple Sussex County to Serve the Homeless

Published on - December 15, 2015

Peninsula Home Care - Truck Coded PurpleSEAFORD, DE – As temperatures continue to drop this winter, area homeless will seek shelter to find relief from the cold. Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke is serving this community through the collection and donation of food, clothing and other essentials such as blankets and toiletries. A team from PHC at Nanticoke recently delivered a truck full of goods to a Code Purple Shelter at the Pathway Center at the Church of God in Seaford, Delaware.

“We wanted to do something to help those most in need”, said Robyn Coughenour, Branch Director Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke.  “Our team visits people in their homes every day to help them recover and get back on their feet. This gave us an opportunity to see the bigger picture, and help the people who may not have a home but still need support, care and a helping hand.”

Code Purple Shelters were first initiated by Sussex County Homeless Coalition, a grassroots coalition formed to help local groups provide coordinated services to area homeless.  A Code Purple Shelter is not a traditional shelter.  It provides emergency shelter to aid the homeless when night-time temperatures are expected to fall below 32 degrees.

Sussex County Homeless Coalition has established Code Purple Shelters at the following locations:

  • Church of God Lighted Pathway Building, Seaford, DE
  • Laurel Nazarene, Laurel, DE
  • Georgetown Presbyterian, Georgetown, DE
  • Gateway Fellowship, Bridgeville, DE
  • Mount Olivet UMC, Seaford, DE
  • Centenary UMC, Laurel, DE
  • Milford Multicultural Center, Milford, DE
  • Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church, Rehoboth, DE
  • Immanuel Shelter, Rehoboth, DE
  • Cape Region Haven, Milton, DE
